British Collie of the Year was the first show for us in 2024. Odin was entered in Veteran of the Year and came 3rd, Vinnie and Gypsy were entered in Adult of the Year but were unplaced. Judges were Brenda Cooney (Lingwell), Caz Waterhouse (Lynmead) and Keith Derry (Vistca).
9th March and off to Crufts. Odin was placed 3rd in Veteran dog and Miami VHC in Limit dog under judge Carole Smedley (Antoc). The star of the day again was Gypsy who won a big Limit bitch class under judge Viv Anderton (Karava).
25th February and the Cheltenham open show was held at Stoneleigh. Judge was Josie Hadley-Large (Wizaland) and she placed Maverick 3rd in junior, Miami 3rd in open and then Odin was placed 4th in AV pastoral veteran by judge Mark Elliott (Bellpins).
17th February and across to Newark open show. A good big entry for an open show these days. Maverick was 2nd in the Puppy class and Miami won the Post Graduate class and also Reserve Best of Breed. The Odin went in the big pastoral Veteran class and was placed 4th out of 13. The judge was Angela Pedder (Caldermist).
10th February and off to Stoneleigh for the Midland Collie Club centenary show. Odin placed 2nd in Veteran dog and RBVD. Maverick placed 3rd in MPD qualifiying him for Crufts 2025. Miami was placed 4th in a big limit dog class and Gypsy won the big limit bitch class. The judge for dogs was Alan Jones and for bitches Karen Colman-Smith (Karlaina).
24th May and off on a long trip to Bath Ch Show under judge Russell F Jones (Quemerford). Odin was placed 2nd in Veteran dog, Gypsy 2nd in Open bitch but the star of the day was young Maverick winning the Puppy and Junior dog classes and then being awarded the Dog Challenge Certificate and Best Puppy in Breed.
The Birmingham National CH Show was held on 10th May and our judge was Judith Gregory (Tonkory). Took 5 of the gang. Odin was 3rd in Veteran dog, Maverick 4th in Puppy dog and Miami 3rd in Limit dog gaining his stud book number. Ruby was 5th in Limit bitch and Gypsy 2nd in Open bitch.
The Smooth Collie Club of Great Britain held a double open show on 4th May. The judge for show 1 was Pauline Luxmoore-Ball (Hushwing/Zima). She placed Odin 1st in Veteran dog, Best dog and Reserve Best of Breed. Gypsy was 3rd in Open bitch and Maverick Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed. The judge for show 2 was Sheila Beeney (Coneypark). She placed Odin 2nd in Veteran dog, Gypsy 1st in Open bitch and Reserve Best bitch and Maverick Best Puppy dog and Best Puppy in Breed.
The East Anglian Collie Association held a double open show on 14th April. The judge for show 1 was Di Collino (Imaginist). She placed Odin 2nd in Veteran dog, Miami 3rd in Post Graduate dog, Esme 2nd in Puppy bitch and Maverick Best Puppy Dog and Best Minor Puppy Dog. The judge for show 2 was Marion Withers (Stanydale). She placed Odin 2nd in Veteran dog, Miami 4th in Post Graduate dog, Esme 2nd in Puppy bitch and Maverick Best Minor Puppy in Show.
The Edwinstowe open show was held on 29th March. Richard Bott (Quensha) was the judge. Odin was unplaced in the AV Veteran class but Miami was 2nd in the open class and Maverick won the puppy class, Best Puppy and Puppy Group 4..
NWPBS Ch Show was held at Malvern on 13th July under judge Allyson King (Allyking). Miami and Ruby were placed 5th in their respective Limit classes, Gypsy was 2nd in Open Bitch and Maverick was 1st in Puppy Dog and also Junior Dog. Mav also went in the Puppy Stakes under judge Kevin Young (Sunkap) and came away with 3rd and some prize money.
To top off an amazing weekend we went down to the London Collie Club Ch Show. Maverick was unplaced in Puppy dog under judge Doreen Clarke (Lynway) but Gypsy was the superstar again. She was placed first in the Open bitch class and then went on to win her 3rd Challenge Certificate under judge Sue Randall (Ladnar) which makes her a UK Champion. She then went on to win Best of Breed and then under judge Darren Clarke (Pelouche) was awarded Best in Show.
Derbyshire County Show was held on 23rd June. Maverick winning Best Puppy in Breed and Pastoral Puppy Group 3, Gypsy winning Best of Breed and Pastoral Group 4. Odin won Best Pastoral Veteran under judge Melanie Reed-Peck (Byqut).
Another weekend and another road trip. This time up to Kelso for the Border Union championship show. Our judge was Jeff Luscott (Jalus). He placed Gypsy 3rd in Open bitch, Odin Best Veteran dog and Maverick Best puppy in Breed.
2nd March and off to Newark again for the Wath, West Melton & District CS open show. Judge Louise Bermingham (Bamcwt) awarded Gypsy 2nd in open and Maverick Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed. Maverick was then shortlisted in the adult group and won the puppy group under judge Denise Rowan (Rowancrest).
Manchester CH Show was held on 19th January. Just took Gypsy and Maverick as it was his first ever show. Neither was placed but both showed like troupers. Judge was Kay Hateley (Mohnesee).
Three Counties Ch Show was held on 7th June at Malvern. Another long Friday drive. Our judge was Ros Macdonald (Rossavon). It turned out to be an amazing day for us. Both Ruby and Miami were placed 3rd in their respective Limit classes. Odin won the Reserve Challenge Certificate and Best Veteran in Breed. Maverick won Best Puppy in Breed and Gypsy was awarded her second Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed. All 3 had to then go in to their groups. The Pastoral Group judge was Mick Taylor (Bruernish) and he shortlisted Gypsy in a big group of 27.
East Anglian Collie Association held its championship show on 4th August. Ruby was placed 4th in Limit Bitch under judge John Walsh Jr (Joshren/Yandamar) and Judge Tracey Jackson (Sassari) placed Maverick 1st in Junior Dog.
Off down on the long trip to Paignton on 2nd August and on a Friday too! Maverick was placed 3rd Junior Dog and Miami 3rd Limit Dog under judge Jenny Miller (Feorlig).
28th July was Leeds CH Show. Gypsy and Ruby were unplaced but Maverick got 2nd in Junior Dog under judge Tom Johnston (Feldkirk).
After a gap in shows we decided to venture down to the Collie Association CH Show on 13th October. Just Odin and Maverick entered under judge Lene Newman (Phreelancer). Both boys looked fabulous and showed their socks off. Odin was awarded Best Veteran Dog and young pretender Maverick being placed 4th in the Junior dog class.
29th August and a trip down to Stoneleigh for the City of Birmingham championship show. We had 6 entered but only took 2 as coats are starting to drop. Odin won the Veteran Dog class under judge Kevin Young (Sunkap) and Maverick won the Junior Dog class and then went on to take his second CC and Best Junior in breed. We then went in to the Junior Group under judge Derek Smith (Clickam) and Mav was placed 4th .
